俊耀表弟is one month old. Congratulation to 大舅与舅妈。
大舅与舅妈 held a simple celebration and invited us to his home.

Now with 表弟joining , Kai and Xuan would have more fun.

"A Proud Papa and his Child"

Look at Jing Xuan, smiling happily with a big smile. She was enjoying the "new" environment, "new" toys and attention she was receiving.

Now, look at the litte boy who run around, in and out of the house (as if this was his own house) without his shoes. At the end of the day, he went home with a pair of "black and dirty" legs.

Tanglin Mall

This evening Papa decided to bring Kai and Xuan to Orchard Road to see the beautiful lighting and to feel/touch the “snow” in Tanglin Mall.

The artificial “snow” was not very friendly to children, it made children very wet. Kai also not interested to play in this “mess” . Xuan was only interested in the lights. We took some interesting photo before proceed to see the lighting. It was a short trip but was an eye opening to the children.

To Raffles Marina

On the eve of X’mas. Papa and mommy knocked off early so in the evening, the family proceed to Raffles Marina club to see yachts and to feel the "sea breezes".

Both were very excited (Kai has not been feeling feel nor eating well for the past few days, so papa and mommy thot it might be a good idea to bring him out for a while). This was the first time papa brought them to see “real” yachts and big ships. Papa explained to Kaikai everything that come to our view. Unfortunately, it was dangerous to let Kaikai run around as there was no proper fencing.Therefore, Papa has to carry Kaikai throughout. We fed Kaikai his dinner there (we are pleased that he has finished the meal smoothly) and we brought some breads for Xuanxuan.



Xuanxuan loved bread. She say “ma ma mum mum” the first time. All these while she only called her Papa :)

Kai & Xuan photo with Christmas tree

After dinner, the family did some window shop at West Mall. There we saw this gigantic Christmas tree with huge red ribbons and bells.

We tried to take some pics but we were not able to capture this tree in. So we decided to take pictures with a miniature of this Christmas tree.

This was the first time xuan (10mth) took picture with Christmas Tree and Kai's (28mth) second time.

X'mas celebration at Ah Mah's house (AMK)

We have a min-x'mas celebration at Ah Mah's place (Ang Mo Kio). This was the creation of all mummies who wanted to give these little kids something to look forward to and be happy. Each mummies have prepared some small gift for every children. Its not the value but the thought that count. "Presents opening ceremony" Xuan was so happy...

Kai's face light up immediately when he received gifts. Xuan still young, but she enjoyed touching and opening presents.

These two children really enjoyed opening up presents (btw, Kai didn't like to take photo recently, so he gave us this type of face).

Kai Celebrating School x'mas

Today Kaikai went for his school X’mas party. Mommy reckons Kai didn’t even know what’s going on. All he knew was this day he didn’t have to wear uniform.

Days ago, his form teacher pasted a notice on his book saying to prepare a $5 gift exchange. So mommy quickly got Kai’s gift ready. On top of that, mommy has prepared 3 gifts for his teachers.

This day Kai was pretty happy. According to 婆婆, Kai has eaten some cookies and was smiling when婆婆 brought him home. He has also gotten his first gift from his gift exchange… it’s a “pink colour” stationery set. Kai was happy with the gift even though it was “pink”, the colour he did not like at all.

Some milestones for the little one:

At 9 month Xuanxuan
- waved her little hand and said “bye bye”
- Knew what was“hi-5”. When we said “hi-5” she would raise her little hands to touch yours
- clapped her hands
- waved her arm when she enjoyed songs
- could Waves goodbye
- able to blow kisses and repeat act if praised
- could sit on her own independently
- still not crawling yet (she a bit “lazy to crawl leh)
- could stand while holding onto supports (eg table, chair, little kitchen)
- like to socialize, smiled when she saw familiar and wanted to go out of the house “badly”. She would follow anyone, even strangers.
- no longer afraid of strangers, she would not cry when she was being carried by “strangers”
- jumping and bouncing” happily when she was happy and excited
- still have only two little teeth, the two upper teeth were still hidden.
- love cereal and porridge more than milk.
- know how to “snatch” things and “fight” with 哥哥.- etc etc many thing which mommy could not list all down

At 27 month Kaikai
- could walk, run super proficiently and fast.
- could climb, crawl, hops and anything that involved physical strength very well
- could do somersault.
- jumped independently (both legs leave the floor on his own) and proud of his achievement
- he knew the meaning of “proud” and would show his “proud & happy” look when we praised him even though he wanted to hide it.
- could hold pencil well and do colouring (scribbling)
- able to said A-Z (80%), 1-14 (90%)
- recognised most of the fruits, vegetables, farm and wild animals
- can sing simple song, (50%) eg ABC song, Oh where has my little dog gone, the wheel on the bus etc.
- recognized some colours, some shape
- loved pictures flashcards, he has three favorable sets and he was able to read and recognized 90% of them.
- spoke with simple sentences of 4 to 5 words. Talk lots at home, learned well and liked to imitate people.
- still very shy when he met strangers. Need 10-20mins of warming up time when expose him to a new environment
- has good memory, just need to bring him to a place once and he can vividly remembered the direction. Just introduced memory games to him and he like it.
- able to follow simple instruction and get “work” done.
- very mature (for his age) and sensitive (he could sense adult mood and his environment pretty well and stubborn (probably he still could not fully understand what adult wants)
- Knows words for urine and bowel movements e.g. “wee-wee” or “poo-poo”
- Etc etc …….

Irregular school attendance

13 Nov 07

After attending class for 2 days, Kaikai was down with sickness for more than a week. Today is his third class. Papa took 2 hours off to send him to school. Xuanxuan was sick on 29 Oct 07 as well (same day as Kaikai) but she recovered pretty fast yet Kaikai took so long. Sigh!!

I was told that, Kaikai refused to stay alone so 婆婆 has to sit at one side of the classroom while Kaikai played happily.

婆婆said Kaikai was the smallest size among all children in his class. Mommy agreed with the comment after seeing a few of his classmates. Kaikai appeared even “smaller” after his sickness. Now he refused to drink milk, everyone has tried all means to make his golden mouth open, took a sip on his milk. Last night, Kaikai slept without drinking his milk and he reacted the same way tonight. So mommy took out one of the “playdough” set mommy has bought earlier to interest him. He was totally engrossed with using roller, cutter and scissors to cut dough. This was when mommy slowly fed him with milk cereal. Sigh… what a difficult task, more tiring than work. Why he was such a fussy eater…..:(

Mommy took half day leave to company Kaikai to school. It was raining heavily so there were only two kids (Kaikai and a little girl named Joanna). Teacher Joyce was on MC so another teacher took over the class. Kaikai refused to let mommy go for the first one hour. So mommy hang around there for a while. When he was more settled down, mommy told him she went out for a while and he said ok. So mommy went outside waiting for him. By the time kai was released from school he was all smile. Hope tomorrow would be a good day too. keeping fingers cross....

Wedding Day N Dinner

11 Nov 07 was mommy cousin’s （建才）wedding. So whole day we hang around 婆婆’s house. Kaikai and Xuanxuan were handsomely and prettily dressed up for the day (tea-ceremony) and evening. I even got a stocking for Xuan heee... so far so good, she has no complaint.

I forgot to bring camera so I didn’t capture any day photo but I managed to capture a few night photo of Kaikai and Xuanxuan. Xuanxuan was fascinated by the balloon and she kept stretching out her two little hands to catch them. I thought my little girl would be scared by the big crowd (xuanxaun 怕生), surprising, she was all smiles and cheery, “shouting” out to people. She didn’t give us any headaches. I’m pleased with her performance

Zekai’s first day in a formal playgroup. Mommy took one day leave to bring Kaikai to playgroup and oriented 婆婆 on the school environment.

Normally Kaikai would sleep until 9.30am and on this special day he has to wake up at 7.45am. A big change to his sleeping time. We spent 30mins to get his off his yaolan then fed him milk and finally dressed him up. Kaikai refused to wear uniform. 婆婆 and mommy managed to get him in his full set of uniform and we thought “work done”, who know, he pulled his pant down and wanted to wear his casual pant. That was around 8.45am and class supposed to start at 8.45am (supposed to be 8am if we wanted him to have breakfast at playgroup but 8.45am if he has breakfast at home. We chose to feed him at home).

Finally mommy, 婆婆and a happy Kaikai went for his school.

Kaikai’s form teacher was called Ms Joyce Lee and Chinese teacher was 李老师 (same surname that’s why婆婆was confused). Teacher Joyce briefed mommy the admin procedure, course curriculum and communication mode. The class started with only 4 children, including KaiKai. It supposed to have 8 of them but teacher Joyce said at playgroup level a lot of the children did not have 100% class attendance and especially in Nov and Dec when it was a holiday season.

Mommy felt that this was a good time to get Kaikai familiar with the place and teacher could spend more time with him since there were lesser children. By next year in N1, there would be 12 children to 1 teacher and I believed at that time teacher might not have that much of time to spend with Kaikai. So choosing to enroll Kaikai at this time was still a good choice.

The whole session goes on well.

1 Kaikai started with playing “outdoor”, then they shift to his playgroup classroom,
2 Teacher Joyce play nursery rhythms, play toys, asked children to pack toys
3 Drinking water time. All 4 children including Teacher Joyce would sit around the table and drink water from the water bottle. Kaikai who normally does not like to drink water follow what other children were doing.
4 李老师 bring out play dough and all 4 children sit around table and start cutting dough

Throughout the session, mommy sat quietly and observed, Kaikai did look at mommy occasionally for assurance and will start playing again.

While playing dough, mommy pretends to go toilet and let Kaiaki stayed with the teacher after telling him. When mommy was back, teacher said Kaikai was doing very well; he sat there quietly cutting his dough. Mommy was pleaseJ))

5 around 10.15pm, teacher Joyce come in again
6 She let the children played toys while checking their diaper
7 Mommy again informs Kaikai she needs to go out. Mommy stayed outdoor till 10.45pm. When mommy walked in, she saw a cute little kaikai, carried a water bottle across his shoulder while another hand dragging his school bag which is about half of his size saying” 回家咯“ give me a shy smile when he saw me.

Teacher Joyce said Kaikai just gave her a hug. One of the little boy “Rayson” thot I was a teacher, asked me to help him to carry bag and hug me. So I gave him a hug as well with Kaikai starring at me with wide eye.

Overall, I’m happy and proud of Kaikai for his performance on his first day. There was no tear but all smile. I hope this will continue. Next week will be a challenging week as Kaikai will be all alone… I will have to keep my finger cross.

P/s : I only saw three out of seven classmates. Out of this three, one is very active, and he pushed Kaikai twice pretty hard while Teacher Joyce was busy. Kaikai looked at me but when I give him an encouraging smile, he was happy again and walked away. Hope the other four classmates would be good to Kaikai as well.

Impact of demolition work

Ever since the demolition work near my mum’s place commenced, Kaikai has been imitating the project with whatever he can got hold of. He will raise his voice as if it was a machine “ Ennnnn king kong king kong…..ennnnn king kong king kong”.

Meanwhile baby Xuanxuan watching her brother with great interest and would follow suit and made loud noise….. wowowo so noisyyyyyy.

another random updates

My Off day :I took one day leave today to take care of the two darling as 婆婆（mum) was not free. As usual, I brought them to library, they loved being there. Especially Kaikai, we have been telling him to lower his voice when he was in library, so when we reached library, he would put his forefinger on his lip and say shhhhhh.....

Xuanxuan’s porridge :We have tried feeding xuanxuan with porridge in Aug but not very successful. So we waited her to reach seven month and tried again. Think she is not really for it yet as she kept pushing porride away and “blow” it all over her face.

Xuanxuan’s Walker

Papa went IMM and got Xuanxuan a walker. We have been looking for a suitable walker for Xuanxaun 2 weeks ago. After comparison we found that this walker was still the best among all. The only thing Mommy didn’t really like was the colour… they did not have pink colour. But this was a small issue, importantly, Xuanxuan love this very much.

First class at BJG

Kaikai went for his first Baby Jumper Gym class this morning. This morning we have to spend spme time waking up KaiKai for his first class which started at 9am (Kaikai slept at 1pm the night before). Mommy told Kaikai “time to go school” .Kaikai has a beautiful picture of what school was (mommy has been brainwashing Kaikai since weeks ago, hopefully KaiKai will love going to school). Who knows, this little boy said 不要. After trying a few times, finally Kaikai was awake and immediately he looked for 妹妹.

After feeding, washing and changing, Papa drove mommy, Kaikai and Xuanxuan to Baby Jumper Gym located at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok Clubhouse.

Today’s topic was “School”. Kaikai was familiar with this topic。

1 So Kaikai read happily with the teacher and “read” loudly when teacher read those words his was familiar with. When he saw familiar items such as colour pencils, crayons, he would said “画画, drawing”; when his saw school bag, he would read “bag”, followed by “一样，一样” because he has one at home.
2 When one kid threw plastic clip on the floor, Kaikai picked it up and gave the teacher. Teacher said “Thank you”. Kaikai was so happy and proud. Yes, he was proud. He turned and looked at me with a big smile, then run to hug me.
3 Kaikai would queue up to collect things from teacher. Sometime when he waited too long since teacher attended to other children first, he would look at mommy and want to come back (he thot teacher forget him). But mommy would signal to him and ask him to wait. Finally, Kaikai collected his item, he would run to mommy with a smile again.

Next was Science session, Kaikai was introduced the term “absorption”. Every child was given some tools to play with.

Finally was the “Gym” session where all children were brought to the indoor playground. Kaikai love this most, he was able to recognize the route to this room independently. After the session, we even stayed for another 20 mins for Kaikai to play around.

As this was the first class, it may be too early for me to conclude. But my comment was, Kaikai might not learnt much academically, but, he learnt to socialize, queue up, follow instruction and it helped to develop his courage and teach him to be independent. Mommy was there to watch and guide him along. Hopefully by the time he joined playgroup and all on his own, his would be able to adjust better and faster.

Another updates of milestones

For the past 5 months (since May 07, after I started working), I have made observation and checked with mum on whether Kaikai wet his bed during his sleep. I was pleased to say that except one or two occasions when Kaikai was super tired and he 尿尿 on his bed, the rest of the time his bed was dry. In the middle of the night, he would wake up and call mommy or Papa for help otherwise he would sleep through and 尿尿after he wake up. So I presumed 90% toilet train.

During day time, Kai would inform us if he wanted to urinate. Of course, there were accidents and some time he was just naughty and refuse to tell us. So I presume 90% toilet train.

As such, I would declare, Kaikai is 90% toilet train (without much training from mommy and daddy). Mommy and Papa were merry. Hope Xuanxuan would follow his brother’s foot step.

Kaikai was able to recognize lot of items. I have tested him via flash card; he was able to relate items on the flashcard with the actual object. This was the game, mommy and papa played with him recently and he enjoyed running around to find these objects. When we praised him, he was super happy and gave us big grin.

As for Xuanxuan, at seven month, she was able to:

1 shake a rattle
2 put whatever she gets hold of in her mouth
3 sit on her own (at time she will fall over to one side)
4 say mum mum when hungry. Actually she can do this few months back
5 push baby gym, she love minie (as there was a mirror attached to it and she loved looking at herself)
6 take books, cards, pencils.
7 make angry noise when 哥哥 takes toys from her
8 smile happily & sweetly when she sees familiar faces and cry when stranger (not familiar to her) wanna carry her.
9 like to jump up and down and dun like to sit still
10 Love watching DVD (those nursery song with young children singing). Just like Kaikai. At this point of time, both do not like those “ang moh” children DVD, they like “local” children or “Chinese”…. Strange?? When I play Hi 5 to them, none interested.

Talked about DVD, Kaikai and Xuanxuan will fight with their Papa for TV. Since KaiKai and Xuanxuan love the same DVD, they were in one team and Papa another. When Papa watched news, Kaikai would pull Papa’s hand and said “看看baby” and Xuanxuan would make impatient noise, shift here move there, could sit still. When Papa tuned to their favour channel, both esp Xuanxuan would sit quietly there watching.

Bits N pieces

Kaikai spoke to me in Hokkien (厅，这个，那个，箱子). This day, Kaikai was cranky, 耍脾气。He wanted something but we did not understand what he wanted, so we ignored him. Yet he kept making irritating sound. So we have to ask “yes” or “No” type of questions to guess what he wants. Finally we strike the jackpot. He wanted to go living hall instead of sleeping in sarong. A simple request yet we adult dun understand because…….he spoke Hokkien + English. Wah Piang, how we knew he could speak Hokkien.

In fact Kaikai has shown signed that he could speak Hokkien somewhere in September 07. 婆婆，公公 spoke to little Kaikai in Mandarin, mommy and Kaka communicated in English, Papa a mix of both languages. We did not speak to Little Kaikai in Hokkien. Only when we decided not to let him know certain issues, we would communicate in Hokkien. So this little boy has picked up Hokkien subconsciously daily. 伤脑筋 what language should we used now???

I have also observed something cute Kaikai did when we cross the road. Must write this down. Sunday (30 sep 07) we went IMM, while crossing road, he put up his palm like a stop (wait) sign to the driver who stopped his car to let us cross. He did this again today. Nobody taught him yet and he understood road safety. That’s great.

As for little Xuanxuan, I have introduced fruit to her since Saturday, 29 Sep 07. I started with Puree pear. Today her dessert is apple. I thought this would make her poo poo softer, who knows my maid told me her poo poo was hard. Would try to introduce more serving for fruits and water to her.

Kai join the National Library family

Today, Kaikai received his library card.

Back in March 2007, Papa has started to bring Kaikai to Library. At that time mommy was observing her confinement. From April 07 onward, mommy would bring Kaikai to library almost once a week. Mommy want to introduce books to Kaikai & Xuanxuan hoping they would love and enjoy reading. Since 20 Sep 07, mommy has started to build a mini library for the two little sweetie at home. Mommy did not want to force Kai or Xuan to read, just hope they would love reading and it would form part of their daily life. Reading was very important as that was where one could receive lots of information and lnowledge.

These are two pic taken in May 07 when Kaikai was still very 乖。

Initially, he would 乖乖sit on the floor, took out books, flipped through them and left them on the floor. Mommy has to put all books one by one back into the book shelve. After a few weeks, he would “walk” around library with books in his hand (as if he was reading them). Now, he would run around the library and shouting “ where is mommy” “where is meimei” “where is papa” “ Oh where Oh where”… we have to quickly stop him and ask him to lower his voice and threaten to leave library. So he quieted down, yet this last for less than 10mins and he would start touring library.

So far, librarians did not say anything but constantly keep a smiling face when they saw us. Probably we restricted Kaikai to Children corner or talk aloud corner ,when he increased his volume, we as parent did our part to stop him.

Kaikai's masterpiece of Art

Kaikai loves to draw. He could sit on his workbench 画画 for more than 30mins. He can draw on any paper, big or small, any colour. BUT there is a condition, he need a companion to appreciate his art work.

Tonight, Papa has sat next to Kai while Kaikai started to draw his masterpiece. This is the first piece of “proper” drawing on a “proper A4 white paper” using the washable markers.

Mommy thot this was interesting so capture this down. BTW, the little "man" on the right is drawn by papa.

Whats Ur name and how old are you?

When Kai was 25 month old (2 Sep 07) we asked him, whats your name? He would say "Ze Kai". After that, he was not as co-operative. Depending on his mood and the way we asked him, he would give you different answer.

So today, we ask him, "how old are you?", he happily say "two". Wow, surprise... ...

To confirm he really know what he means, mommy and 婆婆 tested him and yes, its confirm, he knows what it means, just that at time he is cheeky dun want to give you a proper answer. Occassion mommy would pretend and use his animal friends to ask him questions, he will answer properly... ... this explains why "
pretend play" is so important to a tiny child.

Yesterday mommy gotten another playdoh set for Kaikai and Xuanxuan. Bought a set of washable markers as well. Papa brought Kaikai to Burger King and Kaikai learnt the word “Burger King”. When he saw “Burger King” he said Burger King, when he saw KFC, MacDanold, he also said “Burger King”.

Mid-Autumn celebration (II)

八月十五, today is the actual day for the mid-autumn festival. Thanks to mum who got a ticket for us to join the cc celebration which was organized at the opening space directly below my mum’s block.

Mum got us a ticket last year too, but Kaikai was too young to appreciate it. On top of that, the event was not well-organised.

This year it was different, the event organizer has done a good job. The place was much well decorated with lanterns made by children (for lantern making competition), more toddlers, more crowded and games. As usual, we would receive a set of gift comprised of paper lantern. In fact, I prefer paper lantern as it look more oriented and nicer.

This year, Kaikai saw other children carried paper lanterns, he also wanted that. He thrown his plastic, musical demoren lantern to us and wanted paper lantern. So papa lighted one for him. 公公 came to join us. Kaikai was a happy kids and walking around pointing at different lantern and comparing them (similar or different).

Xuanxuan was very co-operative and well-behave. She watched people moving around with bright eye and laugh whenever we called her. She was such a deary

While n’joying ourself, we did not realize that Our MP, Dr Ong Chit Chong was standing right behind us. He touched Kakai’s head and wanna carried him, but Kaikai was too shy. We took a pic with him.

When he saw Xuanxuan was such a cutie, he clapped his hand and she lean forward… and so Dr Ong carried Xuanxuan. Surprise!! Xuanxuan did not even make a single noise. Xuanxuan would upset when stranger carried her but not this time. Look like Xuanxuan like Dr Ong as well.

Mid-Autumn celebration (I)

Tonight there was a mid-autumn festival celebration in my company. I have “booked” Papa’s time two weeks ago asked him to be home earlier since activities started at 7pm. We managed to feed both children, clean them up by 7.30pm and reached my company at 8pm.
There were a lots of activities, games such as 猜灯谜，歌唱表演，赏月，品尝going on. Interestingly there were people dressed up as fairy tales figures walking around the whole compound.
Kaikai was attracted by the rabbit “玉兔“and keep looking for it (he kept saying 找找 rabbit). Initially Kaikai refused to walk on his own but in order to find rabbit quickly, he decided to carry his lantern and walk on his own to find “rabbit”. We could not find rabbit, but we managed to take a photo with 仙女 and 福如寿. When Kaikai saw a few big drums on the floor, happily he hit on it loudly.

璇璇 was very interested in these two fairy tales figures, she kept looking at them. Whereas 凯凯 didn't seen to fancy them much. 仙女wanted to carry Kaikai, but he refused her offer.

After staying for slightly more than an hour, we decided to go home as the whole garden was getting more crowded and children were tire. Afterall, we would have another outing next Tuesday, 八月十五。

Little tikes - Adjust 'n Draw Table

On the night, Papa bought “little tikes - Adjust 'n Draw Table” for the two kids. Papa believe a proper " workstation" is necessary for the little ones as it would affect their body postures and eyesight.

It was a versatile multi-purpose table that was ideal for eating, games, crafts, writing and drawing. With 3 height adjustments we were able to adjust it to suit Kaikai (and xuanxuan’s height). It could also be converted easily to an easel for art projects -- just tilt the table up and lock it into position. Two handy clips hold paper for drawing or painting. Able to seat 2 - 4 children. Here is a picture of Kaikai setting up the table with Papa.
This table was very handy. It not only became their study, drawing table, it acted as their meal table, play table, table to "host" their little relatives. Kai kept asking his "friends" to 坐坐when they visited him.

Lanterns, Science centre

Mommy bought 2 lanterns for two lovely kids. With the whole array of lanterns, I asked Kaikai to choose himself and he chose one that has a star shape, blue colour and with Doreamon picture on it. This year he was able to appreciate lantern better compare to last year.

As for xuanxuan, I got her a pink hello kitty lantern. Next year , I would let her choose herself. Initially, I thought no need to buy for her as she was too young, but when I switched on the light and music of lantern, she was so excited and wanna snatched it and “put it in her mouth”.

That evening, around 5pm, Papa decided to go Science Centre. When we reached there, we saw the signage indicating that it would close at 6pm. We left only one hour to tour.

Kaikai run all over the place and pressed every single button he could and observe the effect. He was very curious. That was a very good sign, he explored as much as he could.

Our little gal was very quiet thoughout the whole trip. She prefer to stay closed to mommy & Papa. Maybe the dark atmosphere is not something she fancy now. But in no time, mommy believe this little gal would be as happy as her little brother.

By the time, 6pm, Papa and mommy were so tire chasing Kaikai. Yet this little boy has unlimited energy and wanted to play outside where there was a pond and some interesting Scientific instruments for him to explore. We have to literally carry him out of the Science centre as he wanted to stay there long. We promised to bring him there again when we have time since it was so near our place.
